Removing the Fore Carriage
The fore carriage would have to be removed from under the waggon as the splinter bar required renewing (which is not a surprise as they are usually the first thing to go). It is no easy feat to balance out the waggon's weight and put the resting timbers in the right place so as not to stress out the body of the waggon. Once done though the fore carriage is a lot easier to work on and also the underneath is too. However I'm most happy and relieved when the waggon is back on it's wheels properly.

Repair, Replace, Repeat!
As well as the weatherboards, wheels are also at the mercy of the British weather, especially if stood outside on grass. They can quickly sink into the earth, and any open gaps between felloe and tyre can result in moisture getting in and the wheel beginning to rot. On this waggon two of the wheels had to be replaced and two had to be repaired. Fortunately the tyres were still in fine fettle and could be re used in the hooping process.
