More Roof Repairs - So the removal of the weatherboards front & rear gave us a bit more work to think about. Particularly in terms of strengthening the porch areas. There was the issue of the corners, OS & NS on the front of the waggon, as well as a rotten section on the front roof rib and one on the rear roof rib.

The corners in question were filled, glued and screwed, clamped and then sanded. The rotten sections, on both front and rear roof rib ends, cut out and new wood spliced back in, and again glued and nailed, clamped, sanded & edges shaped to match. All the roof board end edges have been rounded off using a detail sander and have had a glue wash solution applied to seal.
Gone with the Roof
As in the film 'Gone with the Wind', the roof work has become an epic undertaking, with the script changing on a daily basis as the dramas have unfolded. All deadlines have been stretched in every aspect. But undeterred, with no alternative, the problems were each faced one by one and solutions found. Most definitely a challenging time, but resulting in great satisfaction at the work achieved.
With all roof repairs now complete, the remaining prep work of sanding, gap filling and nailing down any loose boards can begin. Fingers crossed all the work on the roof will be finished by mid to late week so I can prime and have a small team over the weekend to help fit the canvas.
