With the pandemic dominating all areas of everyday life and lockdown restrictions postponing the creation of new working relationships, certain aspects of the waggon restoration have come to a halt as professional advice and skills have been required. Slowly, with restrictions lifting incrementally, I could now look at picking up the phone and calling for some reinforcements.

First stop – Addressing the scaffold situation
The remaining work on the roof becoming an inevitable task to undertake, was one which couldn’t be delayed any longer. Concerns regarding the shaking scaff I’d been previously using and the struggles balancing from it, to first remove the moss and then the many layers of felt covering, convinced me it was time to bring in a safe and solid platform to work from. (Though not retiring my own scaffold completely).
Blazing Scaffolds
Tom and his team from Atom Scaffolding (pictured above) came in and did a top job. Respecting all social distancing rules, they were very considered in the positioning of the platform and extremely professional. Click link to see the scaffold video:- https://youtu.be/eNhMs4fBxt0
I now have a great starting block for completing the cleaning up of the roof boards. Some leftover and very old canvas discovered in places underneath the felt will need removing and unbelievably more tacks and pins to take out so there are no sharp objects that will interfere with the next canvas skin going down. Also any remedial work that may be needed can now be done safely.
